What a sitemap does

An XML sitemap is a list of the pages you want search engines to index. It helps them find new and deep pages faster, and it is especially useful for new sites and sites with few links pointing at them.

What goes into the file

We follow links from your home page, stay on your own domain, and obey your robots.txt. Pages marked noindex, pages that point to another canonical address, file downloads and addresses with query strings are left out. The lastmod date is added only when your server reports one, because Google ignores dates that are not accurate.

Frequently asked questions

What if my site has more than 100 pages?

This generator is a quick start for small sites. Large sites should generate the sitemap from their platform or with a full crawler.

Where do I upload sitemap.xml?

To the root of your site so it opens at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. Then submit it in Google Search Console and add a Sitemap line to your robots.txt.

Does it find pages that need JavaScript to appear?

No. It reads the HTML your server sends, like a basic crawler.

Read-only: we request public pages the way a visitor would. Private and internal addresses are blocked, and nothing you enter is stored.
